Annual Ag Live hatchback brings alumni together and supports scholarships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa .– The Ag Live 2021 tailgate, an alumni reunion and charity event hosted by Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society, returns to University Park’s Snider Agricultural Arena for another year of fundraising and camaraderie among alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends.

“It’s exciting to plan an event in person,” said Alan Schaffranek, director of alumni relations at the college. “We are grateful to continue this Ag Hill tradition after the success of last year’s virtual event while incorporating new activities into the tailgate. “

Ag Live is scheduled for November 20, ahead of the Penn State vs. Rutgers football game. Participants can bid on a resort getaway, parking permits for the 2022 football season and other valuables at a live auction hosted by auctioneer Mark Keller.

The hatchback will also feature a silent auction with in-person and online auctions. Items offered for auction include an original painting by Maggie Harding, Penn State items, sports memorabilia, and gift baskets. These can be viewed online on the Ag Live website several days before the event.

All proceeds go towards scholarships, internship grants and other programs for students and alumni of the Alumni Society.

A new event this year is the Ag Hill Olympics, which is organized by the Ag Student Council. Participants are encouraged to cheer on student organizations as they compete for the Ag Hill Trophy, bragging rights and prizes.

“Ag Student Council is delighted to offer this experience to our students while providing alumni the opportunity to remember their time at Ag Hill,” said Taylor Halbleib, Chairman of the Board. “Ag Hill Olympics is an ideal way to promote unity within the entire College of Agricultural Sciences community. “

Finally, attendees can help out the Lion’s Pantry Food Bank and the Penn State Professional Attire Closet by participating in a professional food and clothing drive. Donations of non-perishable, unopened and unexpired food and toiletries, as well as lightly worn work clothing and accessories are requested.

Ag Live gold sponsors are the Pennsylvania Propane Foundation, Giorgi Mushroom Co. and Giorgio Fresh Co. Silver sponsors are Planted Earth Landscaping Inc., Bell and Evans, Ag Choice Farm Credit, Land O ‘Lakes and McHale Landscaping.

The registration deadline is November 15th. To register, visit the Ag Live registration website. Questions can be directed to Schaffranek by emailing [email protected] or calling 814-865-2717.
