City Council Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee Hearing on Cases Nos. 0159, 0161, 0162, 0163, 0164, 0166

Message and Order Authorizing the City of Boston to accept and expend the amount of One Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($125,000.00) as a grant for the FY21 Violence Against Women Act Stop Federal Grant, awarded by the United States Department of Justice, passed through the MA Public Safety Executive Office, which will be administered by the Police Department. The grant will fund a civilian violence advocate who provides services to victims in Jamaica Plain, East Boston, Charlestown and overtime for all domestic violence advocates.

These files were sponsored by Mayor Wu and were referred to the committee on January 26 2022.

NOTE: The Boston City Council may have a participating quorum due to standing city council committees consisting of both voting and non-voting members. However, members participating in this duly posted meeting shall only participate and deliberate within the framework of the business of the permanent committee.

Presence

Pursuant to Chapter 20 of the Acts 2021 amending certain requirements of the Open Meetings Act and exempting public bodies from certain requirements, including the requirement that public bodies hold their meetings in a public place that is open and physically accessible to the public, The City Council will hold this hearing virtually. This allows the City Council to fulfill its responsibilities while respecting public health arrangements and ensuring public access to its deliberations by adequate alternative means.
