Debthunch Debt consolidation: is it a scam or legit?
Ad Disclosure: We receive referral fees from advertisers.
Who is DebtHunch? They are not a lender. They seem to be a lead generator selling to companies like Gold West Financial. They mainly sell to debt settlement companies.
You probably received a letter with a personalized debt consolidation analysis offering you savings of $167 per month with a 0% interest rate and promising to save you $17,887. They claim your monthly payment can be reduced from $400 to $233 per month.
Sounds a bit pretty to be true?
And you go looking for opinions.
Is Debthunch legit or a scam?
Crixeo.com gave Debthunch a 2-star rating (data collected and updated as of October 6, 2021). We hope the information below helps you make an informed decision on whether to do business with Debthunch.
- Debthunch is not a lender.
- It appears that Debthunch operate a typical bait and switch program – though not for themselves – for their primary buyers. They lure you into sending you a direct mail with a ridiculous 0% interest rate to consolidate your high interest credit card debt.
- Debthunch doesn’t tell you that you need great credit to qualify for a loan with that low interest rate (that you were supposedly pre-approved for).
- While mailer Debthunch offers incredibly low rates, the licensing information on their site reveals that they are only licensed in California with a financial lenders license.
- Their disclosure clearly indicates INFORMATION FROM YOUR CREDIT REPORT HAS BEEN USED FOR THIS OFFER. WE WILL WITHDRAW THIS OFFER IF YOU NO LONGER MEET THESE CRITERIA.
- We’re curious how many consumers this offer was mailed to actually qualify for 0% interest.
Debthunch Reviews and Ratings
Debthunch has an A+ rating with the BBB but something is wrong. Debthunch seems to get their feedback very early in the process before bad news is passed on to the consumer by the lead buyer. If you read some of the negative reviews on Trustpilot you will get a different picture.
Reviews on Trustpilot
Below are some of the very recent bad reviews of Debthunch on Trustpilot:
It’s a company that fishes for customers who are drowning in debt. Coming to them as a customer With decent credit And unsecured debt But no credit card debt Lied to me And then ignored. They didn’t even have the decency to tell me no. They just stopped forwarding my calls to me because I didn’t meet their criteria. This company is a scam and buyers should beware.

Look man, this is going to be my last answer, I’m not going to waste my time anymore. If you’re backed by all of these grandiose reviews and the things you claim to have accomplished, why are you concerned about the one-star review of this “false” person you keep calling me? Like, enough, I’ve already said my opinion that it won’t change, I can just see you again in other places too, now move on and keep shining!
Since you took the time to literally berate me on this answer, now I’m really going to keep it as is, I said in our phone call that I would consider changing the review, but not the rating that you later got brought to try and WELD ME WITH A $100 GIFT CARD TO “COMPENSATE” ME FOR MY TIME AND THINK ABOUT CHANGE THE RATING!! And you know DAMN right, the note is because it had been over a month and I hadn’t received a callback from Gold West Financial, which is/was a company you work with, until you were contacting me because of the review so don’t’ If you dare say it was for not getting a phone call within 24 hours why not try 5 weeks!!! And even if you don’t directly deal with or “help” people consolidate their debts, it’s still a company you employ and therefore the responsibility lies with you! What you yourself have recognized! And you are very wrong; DebtHunch did NOT help me consolidate anything! I was able to get a loan through a completely different company! In fact all you did was be a pain in A*** calling me two days in a row to persuade me and change the rating and review!! And you are also lying by saying that I agreed that you are not a fraudulent company!! I said I wasn’t sure and at this point I didn’t care if it was or not because it left a very bad impression on me! Now leave me alone! Stop scolding me just because I declined your $100 gift card to change it! Now eat it! I won’t change it!!!! How childish do you have to be to do that? ! Incredible.

NOT AS IT SEEMS
From the flyer I received in the mail, it was not clear that Debt was not a loan provider; but is a debt settlement company. It was also not clear that I was being referred to another company because of the debt. Eventually, with a few questions, I was close to figuring this out; but I feel like it was the company trying to use a loan offer as a hook for the debt settlement. I didn’t want to mess up my credit…I just wanted a decent loan.

I’m just starting my journey. Not sure.
