Mary Metzler and George Toepfer | Maryland Council on Economic Education
To better meet the growing personal finance education needs of educators and students, the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE) expanded its teaching team by appointing Mary Metzler as Director of Student Programs and appointing George Toepfer as director of teacher training.
As Director of Student Programs, Metzler will improve how student experiences provided by MCEE, such as the Stock Market Game and the Personal Finance Challenge, engage students in learning. Over the past two years, Metzler has been successful in improving instructional resources and teacher support for financial education programs that MCEE has asked him to focus all his talents on their continuous improvements.
Prior to joining MCEE, Mary taught business management, economics, and accounting at Howard County Public Schools. She is also an assistant instructor at Howard Community College where she teaches Introduction to Management and Business Organization.
As Director of Teacher Education, Toepfer will develop initiatives and relationships to provide Maryland teachers with robust resources and professional development opportunities to enhance the teaching of economics and personal finance in all areas of content, including dynamic workshops, professional development courses, academic credit courses, and other advanced courses. educational programs.
Toepfer previously served as supervisor of social studies at Harford County Public Schools and previously as a social studies teacher and department chair. Toepfer has extensive expertise in interpreting our National Education Standards and developing educational opportunities for teachers that help them understand the standards themselves, why they are important, and how to teach them in an engaging way.
