Voting for board elections will open Feb. 7 – The Varsity

Eight student seats on the U of T board are up for election this year.

The Board of Trustees is made up of 50 people, including administrative staff, full-time undergraduate students, part-time undergraduate students, graduate students, teaching staff, and alumni. It approves decisions on academic, admission and tuition proposals.

Online voting for Board of Governors positions will be open from 9 a.m. on February 7 to 5 p.m. on February 18. Election results will be announced at 10 a.m. on February 22.

There are four seats in total open for full-time undergraduate students, which are divided into two constituencies: two seats are available for UTM, UTSC and Faculty of Arts and Science students from UTSG and the other two are available for students from other faculties. , including the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. For the seats in the first constituency, 34 candidates are in the running, while four are vying for the seats in the second.

Two council seats are reserved for part-time undergraduate students. However, only one student is vying for the seats this year.

The two seats offered to graduate students are also divided into two constituencies: one seat is offered to students in social sciences and humanities and the other to students in scientific programs. Seven candidates are running in each constituency.

In addition, the seats for administrative staff and teaching staff will also be filled in the next elections.
